We will explore the Roman walls that encircle the village and admire the monumental gateways that will take you back in time to the Roman era, including the massive Porta Urbica and Porta Consolare with its three entranceways surmounted by funerary statues and the adjacent tower with the clock.
You’ll see the fascinating Chiesa Collegiata di Santa Maria Maggiore, where you’ll have the astonishing good fortune to see one of the greatest masterpieces of the Renaissance, the fresco depicting the ‘Natività’ by Pinturicchio, which decorates the whole of the wonderful Baglioni Chapel. We will continue our tour and observe the different styles of the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall), with its 13th-century facade made of white and pink limestone and the subsequent 16th-century extension to the building. The 17th-century Palazzo Cruciani instead boasts a particularly elegant gallery with a wooden roof, while Spello’s Belvedere will give you a matchless panorama over the surrounding valley that will leave you speechless. After a walk that will take you to the highest part of the town, we’ll see the spectacular Porta di Venere, a true symbol of Spello which, together with its two imposing dodecagonal towers known as Torri di Properzio, will enable you to enjoy truly unique scenarios. To conclude your tour of the village of Spello, we’ll visit the Museo Civico, where you can learn more about Spello’s fine works of art.
