From the village to the countryside, up to the ‘Saggio Signore’, the symbol of Trevi
Just outside Trevi there is an ‘old sage’ who has accompanied the growth of the city since ancient times, indeed for almost 2000 years. Winters, kingdoms, papacies, conquerors and epidemics have come and gone but he has remained alive and well, planted in a spot that once welcomed him so warmly and continues to embrace him. The ‘Saggio Signore’ (old sage) is actually the olive tree of Sant’Emiliano, whose origin we can traced thanks to an ancient 9th-century codex in which it is said that Emiliano, recently dispatched as Bishop of Trevi, was bound and then beheaded to ‘a young olive tree’ in the remote year of 304 AD.
This trek will take place near the village of Trevi, in search of the ‘wise old sage’, which you will learn to discover and appreciate with the help of our guide.
