The Hermitage and the Menotre waterfall trekking

Back to the exploration

The Hermitage and the Menotre waterfall trekking

A waterfall trekking, a fabulous hike up Monte Pale and an exploration of the origins of Umbria

Your destination will be the ancient hermitage of Santa Maria Giacobbe, perched inside a natural rocky cavity on Monte di Pale. With this trekking you will then go down to the shady Menotre gorges, where you’ll see incredible water flows and magical waterfalls.

The route extends in part on highly panoramic rocky paths, some with a gagged uneven surfaces and some in a wooded area on natural ground. The path has few sections that are flat: many are quite steep, both up and down hill. The path that leads to the hermitage is short (about 400 m) but steep, and some portions have steps climbing upwards and others have an uneven, rocky surface. There are no exposed stretches, but only panoramic points protected by railings (with the risk of some discomfort for those who suffer from vertigo!). The initial part of the route is in open and sunny areas, giving way to a riverfront portion in cooler and more shaded areas. The return is mostly sunny and includes another uphill stretch, although it’s not very long. There are no refreshment or water-supply points along the way but, once you arrive in Pale, at the end of the excursion, there is a bar.
