Umbria and its organic wines: a small tasting

Umbria and its organic wines: a small tasting

A tasting of some of the area’s most representative organic wines

For several years now, Umbrian wineries have been trying to increasingly adapt their vines to cultivation methods that satisfy the demand for wines made in strict compliance with environmentally-friendly techniques and sustainable practises. Organic wine in Umbria is certainly an expression of quality and attention during the cultivation and winemaking phases of the product, guaranteeing the lowest possible use of preservatives. The tasting we propose begins with Bianco di Torgiano, a dry, robust wine produced with Vermentino, Trebbiano and Grechetto grapes, vinified in stainless steel and characterised by delicate and persistent aromas, and a substantial alcohol content for this type of wine. We will continue with a medium-bodied Rosso Umbria IGT, obtained from grapes grown in clayey soils, exhibiting considerable aromatic complexity and an alcohol content of 14.5%. We will round off the tasting with a Montefalco Rosso DOC, produced with Sangiovese, Merlot and Sagrantino grapes, the latter variety giving the wine a remarkable structure and enjoyable tannins.
