Discover the wines of Torgiano
Torgiano is a small town just below Perugia, surrounded by green hills and on the edge of the great Umbrian plain. Its suitability as a winemaking area is beyond doubt, especially with regard to the production of red wines, such as the Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG. In recent decades, however, some producers have established themselves with white wines and have represented and enhanced this territory under a different perspective, in most cases receiving a positive reception from markets, including at an international level. On this tour option you will be able to taste and compare the aromas and flavours of four wines from this winemaking area. After a tour of the winery and an explanation of the many winemaking and ageing techniques, the tasting will start with a Bianco di Torgiano DOC, a young wine that maintains lengthy aromatic persistence with pleasant acidic notes. We will then go on with another wine of the same type that differs due to the fact that a specific vineyard is cultivated exclusively for this wine, thus making it a ‘single vineyard’ cru but, above all, because it is aged in barriques for about 3 months, giving it a satisfying softness and guaranteeing easy drinkability. We then move on to tasting a Rosso di Torgiano DOC, an expression of the Sangiovese grape variety and the autochthonous (native) grape Colorino, which has delicate aromas and an excellent, balanced flavour profile. Finally we’ll enjoy a Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG, a ‘single vineyard’ wine with a unique, complex and structured elegance that pairs perfectly with grilled meats but also with refined international cuisine. During this tasting you’ll have entered the fascinating world of Torgiano and consequently you’ll want to take advantage of the winery’s sales point: you can buy wines to take away or have them sent directly to your home!
