From Spello to Collepino, along the Roman aqueduct

Back to the exploration

From Spello to Collepino, along the Roman aqueduct

A walk alongside ancient ruins and olive groves up to the captivating village of Collepino

Going up to Spello, in its upper part, and coming out through Porta Montanara, you’ll find yourself immediately immersed in nature. This is where our path begins, following the line of the ancient aqueduct, which still clearly visible in many sections, on a magical path flanked by olive trees, asparagus plants, streams and a breath-taking view. This is because the Umbria valley will always be on your right as you slowly move up the mountain ridge.

Our destination is the ancient village of Collepino, located right at the end of the Monte Subasio park. This lovely little place will amaze you with the peace and beauty you’ll find once you arrive. The stone walls and houses are all intact and well cared for thanks to the residents who still live there today. Don’t expect a place crowded with tourists, quite the opposite! You’ll find just a few wayfarers, a small but excellent restaurant and a friendly resident who runs the local bar and will easily win you over with his smile and infectious good humour. Stop here, have lunch, relax, and then after an hour or so we will once again set off with our guide to return to the starting point. You’ll end the day with a hefty dose of nostalgia and a longing to return, one day, to this magical place. Guaranteed!
