A real, hard-core workout on the Valnerina passes

Test your true mettle in the magnificent landscapes of the Valnerina

This route, one of the hardest we offer, starts from Spoleto and heads out to the peaks of the Umbria-Marche Apennines through Valnerina, surrounded by extraordinary landscapes and nature. Due to its length (114 km) and the tough uphill stretches, it is not suitable for beginners or enthusiasts with little training. We will start from Spoleto’s ​​sports facilities and head towards Via Flaminia, which will take us out of town and within a few kilometres we will reach the foot of the Passo della Spina, the first uphill section of our route. This 13-km climb, without major slopes, will take us to the top of the pass where we will then cycle down towards Sellano, reaching it after climbing and descending the Valico del Soglio pass. After passing the beautiful village of Sellano, we will make a refreshing break along the Nera river to prepare ourselves for the next batch of kilometres that go through thick woods, far from the chaos of the city. Once in Valnerina, we will continue in the direction of Monteleone di Spoleto up the slopes of the long climb (15 km) to Passo Gavelli. It’s particularly challenging in the early stages but provides stunning views of the Valnerina and Cerreto di Spoleto, another characteristic village full of interesting treasures from this wonderful part of the region. We will continue through dense woods up to the top, where we can decide either to continue and in a few more kilometres reach Monteleone di Spoleto or tackle the downhill trip following the planned route. The descent will take us through Sant’Anatolia di Narco and will soon lead us to the foot of the day’s last hard flog before returning to Spoleto: the climb to Forca di Cerro. Recommended clothing

  • Bring a windcheater/anorak with you, even if the activity takes place in the summer months.
  • We recommend wearing the right footwear for the type of bike you are going to use.
  • We strongly recommend the use of a crash helmet suitable for biking.

  • A comfortable backpack suitable for cycling/walking
  • A warm sweater, such as a technical sports shir, for sudden drops in temperature
  • A change of clothes (especially socks) in case of sudden rain
  • Hat with a sun visor
  • Warm hat
  • Gloves
  • Sunscreen


  • Expert guide
  • Mechanical assistance for repairs in case of punctures, problems with brakes or other malfunctions that can be dealt with on the spot.
  • In most cases a car will be on hand to provide any complex assistance or to keep drinks and food chilled.

Bicycles and related accessories are not included in this itinerary.

If you wish, you can choose bike hire from amongst our additional options. We will provide you with the bike that’s best suited to the type of route, taking your preferences into consideration, including helmets, pedaling accessories and spare parts for ordinary repairs. We have various types of bikes available, including e-bikes.


The activity will last about 9 hours, including small stops. However, the duration may vary depending on the pace of the group and the need to take fewer or more breaks.
