In the Martani mountains and Spoleto

Back to the exploration

In the Martani mountains and Spoleto

In the Monti Martani exploring rugged paths and ancient villages up to the magnificent town of Spoleto

This tour, stretching out in the heart of Umbria, will take us in search of the naturalistic and landscape attractions of the Monti Martani but also of fascinating villages of great historical and artistic interest such as Massa Martana, with its Roman ruins and churches in the historic centre, Castel Ritaldi or Giano dell’Umbria. The route is not recommended for less experienced enthusiasts due to its length and the numerous uphill stretches. We will initially head towards Castel Ritaldi from the area of Spoleto’s sports facilities and then cycle along a stretch of the Via Flaminia that will take us out of the city and, once in San Venanzo, we’ll continue our journey on less busy roads, crossing Protte, Beroide and Castel San Giovanni. Once in Bruna we will face our first short climb up to Castel Ritaldi then continue downhill leaving the village behind until the road begins to rise again, flanked by fields and olive groves, in the direction of Torregrosso and Colle del Marchese, where we’ll enjoy a magnificent view over the Umbria valley. After some more ups and downs, we’ll reach Giano dell’Umbria and from there continue to Monte Cerreto, cycling through olive groves and a thick pine forest, on a road that winds snake-like at the foot of Monte Martano. We will pass near the Castello di Castagnola and then press on towards Massa Martana where we’ll stop for refreshment and to see the beautiful town and its monuments. Afterwards, we’ll proceed downhill along the ancient Via Flaminia up to Massa Martana Scalo, where we will go through Acquasparta until we reach the first steep slopes of the Firenzuola pass, the most challenging climb on our itinerary. After the 6-km climb immersed in a dense forest, we’ll plunge downhill towards our starting point, Spoleto. Experience a magnificent day surrounded by nature and amongst villages and hills. Our guides will be your invaluable travel companions and will be able to advise you in the best possible way. Book now, we’re expecting you!
