{"id":4310,"date":"2019-03-28T13:29:08","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T12:29:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.exploring-umbria.com\/?page_id=4310"},"modified":"2020-07-13T13:12:40","modified_gmt":"2020-07-13T11:12:40","slug":"what-to-see-in-preci","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.exploring-umbria.com\/en\/fortified-villages-in-umbria-rare-hidden-gems\/what-to-see-in-preci\/","title":{"rendered":"What to see in Preci"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Discover What to see in Preci\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The small village of Preci, surrounded by dense trees and shrubs \u2013 with an abundance of medicinal plants that have been used since ancient times by inhabitants and monks \u2013 and nestled amongst woods, springs and a rocky limestone formations, is one of the many attractions of the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.exploring-umbria.com\/en\/subcategories\/umbria-parks-and-lakes\/#heading20832\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Parco dei monti Sibillini<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 (Park of the Sibillini Mountains). Perched on the hills of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Apennine_Mountains\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apennines<\/a>, the inhabited centre is a web of steep and narrow streets that sometimes have as much as an 8% gradient and that all lead to the main square, the heart of the village. It won\u2019t take long to explore the attractions of this lovely little architectural jewel, in all its 16<sup>th<\/sup>-century splendour. Your tour should start from the central pizza with its <strong>Palazzo Comunale<\/strong>, the symbol of civil power, not far from the <strong>Chiesa di Santa Maria della Piet\u00e0<\/strong>, built by the monks of the Abbazia di Sant\u2019Eutizio in the 13<sup>th<\/sup> century and a symbol of religious power. To the west, not far from the centre, lies the neighbourhood of Scacchi, named after the brothers <em>Durante<\/em> and <em>Cesari<\/em> <em>Scacchi<\/em>, outstanding exponents of Preci\u2019s famous Surgical School. Walking along the street of the same name, you\u2019ll reach the <strong>Chiesa di Santa Caterina<\/strong>, which has sadly been very badly damaged by earthquakes. Now very different in shape to its original form, it houses the <strong>Museo della Scuola Chirurgica<\/strong>. (Surgical School museum). At this point, the small village will have revealed almost all its wonders but if you make your way to the southern end of the village, you\u2019ll see the well-conserved old city-wall entrance called the <strong>arco di Finocchioli<\/strong>.
