{"id":4035,"date":"2019-03-25T17:21:20","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T16:21:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.exploring-umbria.com\/?page_id=4035"},"modified":"2019-09-03T21:14:58","modified_gmt":"2019-09-03T19:14:58","slug":"municipal-theatre","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.exploring-umbria.com\/en\/todi-eng\/what-to-see-in-todi\/municipal-theatre\/","title":{"rendered":"Municipal Theatre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Todi theatre <\/strong>was planned by architect <em>Carlo Gatteschi <\/em>from Arezzo in 1872, and <strong>inaugurated by Giuseppe Verdi&#8217;s opera <\/strong><em>&#8220;Un ballo in Maschera&#8221; <\/em>(A Masked Ball) in 1876<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Inside <\/strong>the structure is gorgeous, <strong>elegant and classy, <\/strong>with attention to every detail. The curtain portays <em>Ludovico Ariosto<\/em>&#8216;s visit to Todi in 1531 by <em>Annibale Brugnoli<\/em>, a renowned artist from Perugia who decorated the ceiling at the Rome Opera House.<\/p>\n<p>The whole structure hosts 499 seats and is made of four different kinds of daises. <strong>The wide<\/strong> ovoid <strong>parterre <\/strong>is a <strong>gem of\u00a0 the 20th century architecture, <\/strong>whereas the four terracotta medallions representing <em>Metastasio, Alfieri, Rossini<\/em> and <em>Goldoni<\/em> were made by sculptors Angeletti and Biscarini.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1992, the theatre has hosted the <em>Stagione in prosa <\/em>(Season in prose) providing a large number of prominent shows, from operettas to musicals, up to performances with dancers such as <em>Paganini<\/em> and <em>Kemp <\/em>and concerts with singers like <em>Paoli<\/em> and <em>Vecchioni<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Todi theatre was planned by architect Carlo Gatteschi from Arezzo in 1872, and inaugurated by Giuseppe Verdi&#8217;s opera &#8220;Un ballo in Maschera&#8221; (A Masked Ball) in 1876.
