{"id":4008,"date":"2019-03-25T17:06:14","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T16:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.exploring-umbria.com\/?page_id=4008"},"modified":"2019-09-03T20:32:32","modified_gmt":"2019-09-03T18:32:32","slug":"st-ilario-or-st-carlo-church","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.exploring-umbria.com\/en\/todi-eng\/what-to-see-in-todi\/st-ilario-or-st-carlo-church\/","title":{"rendered":"St Ilario or St Carlo Church"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The building is among the most ancient ones of the town as witnessed by some historical documents where it is quoted: in 1112 it was included in a list of assets which <em>Conte Guazza <\/em>sent to Farfa Sabina Abbey, whereas a Latin inscription recalls that &#8220;<em>in 1240, on Pentecost Day, the Church was consecrated by four Bishops&#8221;. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The facade, <\/strong>in Romanic Umbrian style dated 10th-11th centuries, is <strong>characterised by five horizontal notches<\/strong>. Two of them mark the central rose window, whereas the others frame the two rows of the three arches adorning the bell tower.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The rose window is embellished with eight columns<\/strong>, placed in a sunburst pattern on a stone frame which does not seem to have undergone further changes.<\/p>\n<p>The entrance gate is crowned by a lunette adorned with the image of <em>St. Carlo<\/em> and datable 1623, when the pre-existing small Church was entrusted to the Company of the Saint.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inside, <\/strong>on the left side of the altar, <strong>the <\/strong><em>Madonna del Soccorso<\/em><strong> beautiful fresco <\/strong>is placed.
