{"id":4004,"date":"2019-03-25T17:02:18","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T16:02:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.exploring-umbria.com\/?page_id=4004"},"modified":"2019-03-25T17:02:18","modified_gmt":"2019-03-25T16:02:18","slug":"st-nicolo-church","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.exploring-umbria.com\/en\/todi-eng\/what-to-see-in-todi\/st-nicolo-church\/","title":{"rendered":"St Nicol\u00f2 Church"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Along <\/strong>current <strong>Via Matteotti, <\/strong>ancient via Ulpiana, just behind the third circle of walls<strong> nearby Porta Romana (Roman Gate), St. Nicol\u00f2 Church, <\/strong>one of the most ancient churches dated 11th century, stands out. <strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0The building was renowned as <em>St. Nicol\u00f2 de Criptis<\/em> since it used to stand out on the tunnels of the now-abandoned Roman amphitheatre.<\/p>\n<p>Only part of the facade and its small door with lintel remain today of the original building. On the left side of the ancient Church, the subsequent one dated 14th century, is perfectly placed.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, the unaisled structure was changed between the 12th and the 14th centuries, by adding two minor aisles. Each aisle houses a travertine altar nearby the presbytery.<\/p>\n<p>Outside, <strong>the facade <\/strong>displays squared <strong>limestone<\/strong> blocks of different sizes.
